I am ready...
for tomorrow. i think
what if we have have not taught her all of the life skills she needs thus far?
will she talk to much?
will she not talk enough?
will she remember her teachers name?
will she smile when I see her in the hall or will she pretend she does not know me?
what if her heart is sad when I walk away from the door?
what if my heart is sad when I walk away from the door?
i will do fine.
more importantly, she will do fine. no. she will do great!
i can feel it in my (sad) heart.
tomorrow our (oldest) baby girl starts kindergarten and we are ready.
We have done our best to glorify Christ is the raising of our oldest daughter thus far and i have no doubt He will continue to be glorified as she walks into that classroom tomorrow.
this is my prayer for our sweet Jillian.
Here we go, Lord.
Her backpack is loaded and her face is scrubbed and her
teeth are hopefully brushed.
And I know you'll walk with her, Lord. You always do.
But a mom still has to ask.
Will You walk with her?
Will You whisper to her what she needs to hear, when I'm not there to whisper it?
Will You please, oh please, cover her school with the protection only
You can give, and will You keep harm far away?
Will You make her mind strong and ready to learn?
Will You help her understand that hard work honors the One who created her?
Will You guide her teachers, giving them patience and
wisdom and creativity and more patience?
Will You bless them for their efforts?
Will You love all those children there,
the ones whose lunch accounts aren't full,
the ones who feel alone?
Will You teach my child to be kind and unselfish
and to love those who are different from her?
Will You point her back toward home just as soon as you can?
Lord, I give her to You today and everyday, trusting her to Your care.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Just to see you smile
I seemed to have forgotten about this series of blogs that I have. But lately Jillian has really been on her toes and I couldn't help but find someway to blog about them:)
Jillian to HannahKate:
"Jesus knows how many hairs you have on your head, but I don't"
Conversation between Jillian and I:
Me: "Abey's (our compassion child) daddy lives in Heaven"
Jillian: "With Gamma's black and white dog?"
Me: "Yes, and one day we will all live in Heaven with Jesus"
Jillian: "I don't want to die and go to Heaven, I don't want those nails in my hands".
Talking to a friend about Gamma's dog momo (the one in Heaven):
Gabi (telling the friend about the dog): "Our dog momo died"
Jillian: "he died on the cross just like Jesus"
Tonight while playing a game on the computer, we were creating a home for a character and she picked the desert. On the picture she immediately said, "that's where Jesus lives. But then said "but he is not there anymore, and see in the sky, he is not there either, he is in our hearts" (she then broke into song:).
And every night during prayer time when we are doing our requests she always wants to pray for Easter. She always "Thank you for Easter Jesus". I think there is something to be said about a little girl who is so thankful for a God who never leaves us.
Needless to say, over the last 6mo or so we have been talking a lot about Jesus' love for us, Heaven and caring for others. Although I tend to think she has selective hearing, and I really would not put it past her, at least she is choosing the most important things to listen too:)

Ready for Broadway?
I have no idea what she is singing about, but she sure can put on a show.

Memories
I was talking to my mom the other day and she was recalling a memory she had of Jillian. Jillian was about the same age Emma is now and she was not much of a talker, at all. She would open the pantry or see a toy and point while saying "uh uh uh". It "evidently" drove me crazy. But, I don't actually remember it at all. But mom remembered me calling her and complaining about this "uh uh uh" noise that Jillian did, "all the time". Thanks for the memories of my own child mom:)
So in honor the new "milestone" that Emma has reached, i.e. opening the pantry, pointing to the crackers saying "uh uh uh", and the fact that I am horrible at the whole baby book thing, I want to document these things here. I want to remember all of the quirks, smiles, milestones, words, tantrums:/, of my precious girls. This blog seems to be a reliable "journaling" outlet for me. So here it is.
The First Year with Jillian
Dear Jillian,
Your life started out on a memorable note. Daddy had been in Iraq for 5 months, but had made it home just 5 hours before my water broke (this meant you were soon on your way).

You made your debut at 2:17 p.m. on August 6, 2005, weighing in at 7lbs, 21inches long, looking exactly like your daddy...just as I had hoped. It seemed like everyone in town was there to welcome you into this world. It was a glorious day for sure.
Besides your "perfect timing" arrival, the biggest surprise by far (at least for me) was your head full of BLACK hair that you debuted upon your arrival. Bibis and I had talked for months before you arrived about the fact that I did not want my baby to have hair...but I loved your little furry head from day one.

You were born completely healthy and despite 24 hours in the baby "tanning bed" for your jaundice, you were one happy little girl.

For the next two weeks of your life, Daddy and I spent time taking tons of pictures, sleeping very little, and learning how to be your mommy and daddy. You were surpringly very easy going...something else you inherited from your daddy. You ate whatever we gave you, you slept when you were supposed to, you were a good baby. Daddy returned back to Iraq when you were two weeks old to finish his 2nd tour in Iraq.

I went back to work when you were 3 weeks old and you stayed home during the day with Gamma. She loved having you around, but made sure to bring you up to work (I worked for Pa) so that I could feed you and love on you.
Since we lived with Gamma and Pa, auntie Gabi was able to love on you, a lot. She turned 4 just before you arrival she was in love from day 2 (she wasen't really sure about you on the 1st day, but by the 2nd she was good).

Just before Halloween you and I moved back to Colorado. I was so excited to dress you up for Halloween....you were a lobster!

By the time Christmas came around you were beginning to smile and lift your head. You were never really in any hurry to do anything, which really, for the time being, I was fine with. You were eating baby food and cereal on a regular basis. You spent your days at daycare, with the most wonderful Korean woman ever..who just adored you, while I worked.

In January we started preparing for Daddy's arrival home by going to Texas to pass time:) You were "trying" to sit up by this time (5 months)", but weren't quite there yet. You received your first hair cut as your baby hair (that you never lost) had started to become quite the fuzz ball on the back. You had plenty of hair to spare.
Finally February had rolled around and you reached 6 months..just in time for Daddy to return. On February 12, 2006 he returned. The next week you got your first tooth, officially sat up and said your first word, "Dada". God is Good!

We spent your first Easter together as a family and then headed to Texas for a month long vacation.
Mommy and Daddy traveled to Ocho Rios, Jamaica (very belated honeymoom) and you stayed in Texas with Nonnie and Gamma. We missed your little face so much.

By 9 months old, you did nothing. You were still very content just sitting and observing everything and everyone around you. You and I had joined a playgroup a few month prior. We would go the playgroups and just sit and watch all the other kids play. By this time you were eating table food very consistantly, but still took a few bottles a day.

Summer was finally upon us and we were enjoying the sun in Colorado. You discovered popsicles and your slide. You had always enjoyed being outside, but once the sun had shown its face you were thrilled.
You also finally learned to crawl. It was so much fun to see you get around and explore finally.
When you were 11 months old we added a new family member, Lucy

In August you turned 1! We have a "Hawaiian Pool Party" at our home and had tons of fun. (sorry no picture:(, they are on Daddy's computer).
From the moment we knew of your life, you were a blessing. The first year was a year of so many new things for you, daddy and myself. We love you so much and look forward to what the future holds for our Jilli Grace.

She can write her name!
For the last few weeks Jillian and I have been working on learning the spelling of her name and how to write her name. She has seemed to catch on. She is getting so big :(
Here are few pictures from the last few months:
When Mark was at the airport preparing to return to Iraq, the USO offered a service in the airport for military parents. He was able to pick a book for both girls and record himself reading the books to the girls. The airport then mailed the DVD and books to the girls. It was a nice surpise after his sad departure.
Here is a picture of Jillian reading with daddy.

A little bit of rest and relaxation
Mark arrived home 2 weeks ago for his R&R. We were so excited to finally have him home, if only for a short while.
Jillian was ecstatic and Emma was unsure. After only a short while daddy was covered in hugs and kisses by all of his girls.
During his visit we all stayed pretty busy, but we had a ton of fun! Here are some pictures of his visit:
Our Trip to Vegas
Jillian ice skating
Mark got a Snuggie for his birthday while home...
Yes, that's right, you can even play Rock Bank while wearing the Snuggie :)
Jillan also enjoyed the Snuggie...and the book light. But really, that whole "one size fits all" thing..totally a gimmick.
Daddy and his girls
That's right, Emma started walking the DAY Mark got home. That's my girl!

Decisions, Decisions...
So I am having trouble deciding on which gift to get ms. Jilli for Christmas this year. I had my heart set on this:

She loves to take pictures and I thought she would enjoy taking pictures and sending them to Mark.
But thanks to the demons of commercialism (if that's even a word), she is obsessed with this:

I am torn between purchasing a fun practical gift that I think she would like or cleaning up after a "potty training" doll that I know she loves.
Oh decisions....input would be helpful:)

Be Thankful
Today I am thankful for our two beautiful girls. Jillian has a contagious laugh and Emma's smile can't help but make you like up too. I love to watch them grow, learn new things, bring out the kid in me, and even in the hardest times and toughest days...these little girls are what keep me going.
Here are some pictures I took of them in their Christmas dresses for my very amateur attempt at "cheap" Christmas pictures:)

Just to see you smile
After some advice from Kate Gosselin and coming to my wits end with Jillian's "I'm Hungry" demands, over and over again, this was our conversation:
J: Mommy I'm hungry!
P: Ok, Jillian new rule (advice from Kate here), if you repeat your demands to me, you will go to the corner
J: Yes ma'am
J: Mommy I...
P: Don't you even think about saying I'm hungry
J: No, I was gonna say I'm starving:)
P: (I bust out laughing here:)
Oh the joys of a 3 year old:)
